Glory etc and so on it's a cake.
Merry Boxing Day.

There It Is
2.
And you give yourself away
I’m talking about class, of course. We can
dress it up in words like ‘socio-economic group’ or ABC1s or whatever, but that’s
what it basically boils down to. My parents were both teachers, her dad was a
civil engineer, we both have post-graduate degrees and this fact is, to our
families and immediate circle of acquaintances, nothing special. Dual-income,
2.4 children, nice house with a garden and foreign holidays on a fairly regular
basis. We are quite definitely, smugly, appallingly, middle class.
The mothers yelling at their kids in the supermarket are not.

There It Is
1.
Only to be with you.
I think I may have finally found one. Or at
least had one found for me.

Wallowing
Having kids makes it worse, I think. It's a cliché to say that "they grow up so fast," but it's true, and that can't help but emphasise the passage of time and the long absences it entails. These are the choices we make though.
I'll get over it. Back to the schedule and everyday mini-challenges. The trick is to watch the saplings grow and also keep half an eye on the forest stretching out all around you. Anyway, here's a slightly too trite song that still manages to make my throat catch a little every time.

Voodoo Chili*
Chili-less chili. I know that usually makes
about as much sense as a eunuch working as a gigolo, but there’s method in my
madness. Not much, but some. The eldest kid can’t handle the really spicy stuff
yet, despite my best efforts to toughen him up, and I’m just too damn lazy to
decant a portion of onions and mince into a separate pan prior to adding the
real heat. The ‘mild’ version I’ve come up with is OK, but it’s not quite there
yet, so this is a request for suggestions from the more culinary minded among
you.

Meet The New Boss...
I am now, hilariously, ranked second on Google
for the terms ‘Homare Sawa boyfriend’ and ‘Homare Sawa husband.’ I’m just being
edged out by some dodgy looking, distinctively unauthoritative reference site.
Johnny-come-lately upstarts. And that’s just the English version, I’m not even
ranked in Japanese (澤穂希彼氏, 澤穂希旦那. Shameless, isn’t it? Sorry, shameful. I meant shameful).
So, what with the fortunes of the Nadeshiko at the Olympics, I’ve been
picking up quite a few search engine hits on that score. Some have even been
hanging around. Hello there! Either way, it certainly beats my normal complement of chubby chasers and Scarface fans, but still comes nowhere near my all-time favourite
query of ‘egg fucking.’
